Years later, the teenage Peter Parker ( Andrew Garfield) has become an alienated shy and distressed social outcast with still little knowledge about his parents. After quickly gathering some top secretly hidden documents, Richard and his wife Mariam "Mary" Parker ( Embeth Davidtz) leave Peter with his Auntie Mayabelle "May" Parker ( Sally Field) and Unca Benjamin "Ben" Parker ( Martin Sheen), then mysteriously depart without telling Peter where they are going. In Queens, New York City, Scientist Richard Parker ( Campbell Scott) is playing hide-and-seek with his young son Peter Benjamin Parker ( Max Charles) when he discovers that his study has been broken into. Peter's newfound friendship with Connors will be put to the test when he must fight the Lizard, Connors' deadly alter-ego who plans on infecting the city.
Peter soon witnesses his uncle's murder at the hands of a shoplifter and he vows to use his powers for the greater good and he names himself Spider-Man. However, Peter's life soon changes when he is bitten by a spider during his trip to Oscorp and he is granted spider-like powers.
Peter becomes determined to find answers from his father's former partner. Curtis Connors, a brilliant scientist and herpetologist. Peter finds his father's briefcase and he learns that his father has worked at Oscorp with Dr. Peter still wants to learn more about his past and he wants to know why his parents left him.
Peter's life has changed greatly for him, ever since his parents left him when he was only four years old and he has been placed under his aunt and uncle's care for about thirteen years. Peter Parker is a seventeen year old high school student at Midtown High, he has a secret crush on Gwen Stacy and he is constantly bullied by Flash Thompson.
